Julie Wong PT,CLT

I was raised in San Francisco and attended Galileo High School, SF State and then UCSF for PT school.  As a staff orthopedic specialist PT at CPMC in 1986, I recognized private physical therapy practice as an environment where the patients could receive the most helpful and specialized treatment available.  Protocol could be expanded to include newer innovative treatments plans. Clinicians could share experience.  We could confront cases that had been given up or abandoned.  And we succeeded.  Patients who had been told to “live with it” or “quit” discovered otherwise and other ways.

I contracted cancer and discovered a vacuum of care and information for patients.  My background as an orthopedic specialist combined with my osteopathic studies and applications allowed me to develop protocols never conceived or tried.  The work and study with Phillip Greenman, DO, at Michigan State since 1987 were instrumental to my ability to understand and fuse disciplines to create new protocol.  Helping patients regain function, comfort, and understanding has been rewarding for all of us.  There are very few cases that cannot be improved significantly and, as long as patients are willing, we’re able.

Growing our physical therapy clinic is the proof that excellence and success for patients can be achieved daily in cases where patients were previously cautioned to prepare to give up.   We’re thankful for the opportunity to share in their success.

I started my career working as a Certified Athletic trainer (ATC) in college athletics.  I received my Masters of Athletic training from Western Michigan University in 1999.  Although I enjoyed working with young college athletes, I chose to change my physical therapy practice setting to the clinic.   With encouragement from colleagues I return to school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and received my Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2005.  With my past experience as an ATC combined with my skills at a DPT, I make for a unique clinician to serve your physical therapy needs.

It’s my personal and clinical belief that every person who comes to me for treatment should be treated as an “individual”.  Whether you are the young athlete or the young at heart working towards a better quality of life, I feel it’s important to treat you for your goals and personal reasons for seeking physical therapy.

Combining my many skills as a manual therapist, such as Graston Technique, and a vast knowledge of biomechanics, I do my best to return you to your activities and to be at your best.  I specialize in treating athletes with a wide knowledge of sports specific skills and biomechanics in such sports as swimming, running, golfing, baseball and dance, to name a few.  While an ATC in the college setting I worked with every sport group, but primarily with volleyball, gymnastics, football and baseball.  I worked at Center for Sports Medicine here in San Francisco which allowed me to bring my knowledge of dance medicine to local area dancers, including ballet, Irish dance, and ballroom.

Growing up in Northern California’s Tahoe area gave me the environment to enjoy my own sports and activities.  Most of my spare time and weekends are spent running, skiing, swimming and hiking.

After graduating from San Francisco State University with a B.S. in Kinesiology, I thought working at Julie Wong’s Proactive Clinic would be a great opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in the field of Physical Therapy. Since I’ve started here as a physical therapist aide, I have learned so much from Julie and Carrie, and I am still learning till this day! My favorite part of being at Proactive would be the various patients who come in. I enjoy working with them, and it is gratifying to see their progress and improvement over time. Someday I would like to attend Physical Therapy school and eventually become a Physical Therapist… And being at Proactive is definitely helping me achieve that goa

I see for Julie Wong’s Proactive Clinic a vision of excellence that sets us apart.  In 1991 it was exciting to help build the physical therapy environment where patients and clinicians thrive. We set a standard that is a challenge that has served us well.  I enjoy working through systems that help the patients’ access service in the difficult environment many face.  Everyday brings a different opportunity.    I was raised locally and graduated from UC Berkeley.  After experience in sales and finance I joined up with JWPC and we’ve been bringing skill and excellence to patients ever since.  If a patient or physician can share with us how to improve, I love hearing about it.  I enjoy many endeavors including learning, reading and recreating.  My biggest passions are social but I think a double-eagle will be cool, when it happens!

When it comes to assisting patients, I like to feel that I have built a relationship with each patient that comes to our clinic.  My role is to assist patients with scheduling, communications, and case issues.  It’s important to the patient to know that I’m here to help them in any way I can.  The patients put a smile on my face and I enjoy greeting them by name as much as I like seeing them.  I especially like being a part of the team

I’ve enjoyed working with Julie and watching the patients regain a smile on their face. I love it when Julie explains how she does her work. I believe what we are doing here is unique.  When a patient tells me how helpful we’ve been I realize how difficult it can be for them and how our role is important.  I also do my best to answer any questions the patients or clinicians might have on any of the billing issues.  I want the patient to be comfortable and I’m always here with a helping hand.
